An organization must identify what "gift" they offer and provide for their consumers through a powerful value proposition. In order to succeed in producing value, the leaders of the enterprise have to have a story that explains the motives of the organizations and justifies how its operations will improve the state of the world as we know it ... specifically a section that the client perceives as needing improvement. Proposing value to a consumer means understanding your clients’ needs & interests as well as becoming familiar with the goods & services provided by comparable competitors.
Your organization's mission, vision, and value proposition have should be thought of not merely as statements, but as concepts and strategies formed around consumer behavior. It’s from that concept hat you can put your marketing and sales to work much more effectively. These statements should not only identify what the goods and services provide for the consumer and how the key activities will generate revenue, but they should also clarify that the end result is producing aggregate beneficial effects in the community.
Look at other similar organizations -- either locally or elsewhere -- and compare and contrast their operations with your organization's. Be sure to address differences in mission or vision and reflect upon how these differences influence other components of their business model.
In developing a powerful Value Proposition, an organization should reflect upon the following:
People

- How do we perceive the values of our customer segments and how do our customer segments perceive our values?
- Consider the tone of the value proposition -- it should sound inviting and holistic but also grounded and realistic; be sure it does not become too mechanized in a way that speaks only to funders, or too abstract, thus lacking tangible applicability.
- Does our value proposition cater to our clients' needs -- and are the clients aware of these needs or is our organization making them aware of their needs?
